What Central Illinois Roads are Super Cruise Mapped?

Super Cruise is available on over 600,000 miles of compatible roads across the U.S. and Canada. In Central Illinois, you might be surprised to know that Highway 51 between Bloomington and Decatur, Highway 54 between Springfield and Farmer City, and even Rt. 10 between Lincoln and Champaign-Urbana are all Super Cruise mapped! That means even your everyday drives around downstate Illinois are ready for comfort and convenience.

How Super Cruise works

Sensors, cameras, computers, GPS data and precision maps are all a piece of the Super Cruise puzzle. These technologies make it possible for drivers to remove their hands from the wheel under specific conditions.

  • Speed/Distance: Using technology from Adaptive Cruise Control features, Super Cruise adjusts the vehicle’s speed to maintain a set following distance from the vehicle ahead.
  • GM’s Driver Attention System helps make sure the driver is attentive to the road, with eyes open, ready to take control if needed. If the system detects an inattentive driver, a series of alerts kick in.
  • Safety features: If the driver can’t or doesn’t take control, Super Cruise will slow the vehicle to a controlled stop, turn on the hazard lights, and dispatch OnStar to bring assistance to the driver.
  • Lane-changing: To pass a slower vehicle or get out of a lane that’s coming to an end, Super Cruise technology can initiate a lane change.
  • Collaborative driver experience: Drivers can steer the vehicle normally if, for example, there’s a pothole to avoid in the lane of travel. When the driver ends guidance, Super Cruise will automatically resume steering. Super Cruise will also slow down or stop for traffic.

Activating and Using Super Cruise on Equipped Vehicles

Super Cruise is activated by using the button on the steering wheel of equipped vehicles.

A brief explanation of Super Cruise color coding:

  • White: When Super Cruise detects a compatible road and all driving and driver conditions are met, Super Cruise symbol will illuminate white on the instrument cluster.
  • Green: After it is engaged and the steering wheel lights up in green, Super Cruise is in control. To turn off, press the Super Cruise button again or press the brake pedal.
  • Blue: If the steering wheel flashes blue, it means the driver is steering.
  • Red: If the steering wheel flashes red, the driver should take over steering. Super Cruise might not be able to see the road markings due to weather or construction, or the driver might not be looking at the road.

Super Cruise for Trailering

Super Cruise also offers Hands-Free Trailering on select vehicles. When you hitch a trailer to the vehicle, Super Cruise adjusts for the size, weight, and turning radius of your trailer, giving you hands-free comfort no matter what you’re pulling.

Automatic Lane Change and Lane Change on Demand are not available while trailering.

This is a summary of features. Please see full details and FAQs on Buick’s Super Cruise webpage or Chevrolet’s Super Cruise webpage. Always pay attention while driving and when using Super Cruise. Do not use a hand-held device. Requires active Super Cruise plan or trial. Terms apply.

power liftgate button SUV

Opening your power liftgate (i.e. trunk lid equivalent) has never been easier on a variety of new Chevrolet and Buick small and large SUV models thanks General Motors’ Autosense Power liftgate technology.

This new feature replaces the motion-activated liftgate responses (ex. foot kick) previously featured on many Buick and Chevrolet SUV models.

It’s a handy feature to have when the Central Illinois winters make it hard to fish for a key fob in your pocket, in the fall when you have an armload of pumpkins from Wagon Wheel Farm, or when lugging your kids’ toys from a summer day out at Clinton Lake.

Currently, the feature is available on the 2024 and newer Chevrolet Traverse, Equinox EV and Blazer EV; and Buick Enclave and Encore GX, and the 2025 and newer Equinox.

How does the auto liftgate feature work?

To open the liftgate using Autosense, first ensure it is an available feature on your model. If you are unsure if your vehicle has this feature, or want to shop only vehicles with this feature, please contact your local experts at Baum Chevrolet Buick at 217-935-3156 for more assistance.

Using the center display, choose Vehicle Settings > Comfort and Convenience > Hands-Free Exterior Storage Access > Open Only.

The feature works only when the vehicle is in PARK, and when a trailer is not connected.

Opening the liftgate using the Autosense liftgate feature

After the feature is enabled, first approach the rear of the vehicle with your key fob from more than 10 feet away. If you remain close to the liftgate on the vehicle, chimes will sound and the lights will flash. If four chimes sound, the trunk lid will open.

If you do not want the gate to open, simply step farther than 3 feet away for a few moments, or single-press the liftgate button.

Closing the Autosense-enabled liftgate

If you leave the vehicle, the Autosense Power Liftgate will not close automatically.

To close, use the buttons available in the cabin (location varies), the button on the key fob, or the button on the liftgate itself.

The Autosense feature will reset and auto-open using the above procedures if you are 10 feet or more away from the vehicle with its fob for more than 20 seconds.

Ways to mute the Autosense feature on your Traverse, Equinox, Enclave or Encore GX

If the fob is within 10 feet of the liftgate for 2+ minutes, the Autosense feature will not work unless you unmute the key fob by pressing any button, use the vehicle’s door handle buttons, or open/close a door.

If you want to mute the feature indefinitely, choose Vehicle Settings > Comfort and Convenience > Hands-Free Exterior Storage Access > Off.

The feature can also be turned off by pressing and holding the button on the vehicle liftgate until the exterior lights flash. To turn it back on, repeat this process.

Why is my Autosense feature not working?

There are a few reasons why the Autosense feature may not work.

  • The key fob is muted or the vehicle has been parked for several consecutive days. (To unmute the fob, use it to lock/unlock)
  • The vehicle’s battery is low.
  • The fob is inside the vehicle.
  • The vehicle is not in park.
  • A trailer is connected.

How can I avoid opening the liftgate accidentally?

The liftgate is designed to open with a “purposeful” approach to the rear of the car. If the chimes begin to sound, try stepping 3 feet away to cancel the opening.

Chevrolet on Wednesday, Nov. 26, premiered its 2025 holiday ad, a now-annual tradition that features heartwarming imagery, music, and holiday feels.

As always, the spot features a classic Chevrolet, this time a 1987 Suburban, serving as the time capsule for a family’s holiday drive.

In a message to dealers, Chevrolet Chief Marketing Officer Steve Majoros said the ad was also a “recognition and celebration of the women in our lives,” many who are “caretakers of our holiday memories.”

“As a father of three adult boys, the holidays give us the opportunity to reconnect, and cherish the traditions that bring us together,” Majoros said in a press statement. “This year, our focus was to invite people to remember life’s most special moments with family, with its ups and downs, and to find joy in the journey.”

About Chevy’s involvement in the CMAs

A key piece of Chevy’s sponsorship of the CMAs included a special focus on recognizing veterans and active-duty military, a fitting tribute as the CMAs take place in November, the same month as Veteran’s Day.

As 100 soldiers of the 101st Airborne Division watched on from Fort Campbell, Ella Langley announced a surprise for one veteran, retired U.S. Army Sergeant Nick Koulchar, who was deployed in Baghdad during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Koulchar lost his legs in the line of duty as an improvised explosive device impacted vehicle he was riding in.

Koulchar attended the live CMA awards show and gave audiences a look into Chevrolet’s surprise — a next-generation BraunAbility upfitted 2026 Chevrolet Traverse.

The BraunAbility upfit will be the first current-generation Traverse offered by the company, which partners with Chevrolet and General Motors to design accessible versions of the newest models.

“The BraunAbility team is continually innovating and leading in the accessibility industry, and we’re honored to be able to help offer this vehicle to the millions of Americans living with a disability,” Scott Bell, vice president, Global Chevrolet, shared in a press release.

Customers will be able to customize the new BraunAbility Traverse to their individual accessibility needs. Chevrolet and BraunAbility engineered the Traverse to accommodate a wheelchair user as driver, front seat passenger, or second row passenger.

Thanks to its rugged, truck-inspired design, the BraunAbility Traverse sets a new standard in wheelchair-accessible vehicles, offering a practical and capable alternative to traditional converted minivans.

As for Koulchar, he proudly shared his experience as an amputee.

“Everybody has the power to turn their trauma into a positive,” said Koulchar. “People see the missing legs as a disadvantage, but I see them as a superpower.”

Looking for a new vehicle in Central Illinois? Here’s why a sunroof might just be the upgrade you didn’t know you needed.

If you are in the market for a new car, truck or SUV, you have probably seen plenty of great options from Chevrolet and Buick. With so many features available, it is easy to overlook the sunroof, but this one upgrade can completely change how you experience driving.

A sunroof brings natural light into the vehicle’s cabin, making even the shortest drives around Clinton, Decatur and Bloomington feel more open and enjoyable. Whether you are heading to work, taking the kids to school or cruising the backroads of DeWitt and Macon County, a sunroof offers a better view and a more refreshing drive.

Central Illinois offers beautiful driving weather, especially in the fall. A sunroof lets you soak up those last warm days or enjoy the sunshine on a crisp morning. You can vent warm air, cool the cabin, or simply enjoy a gentle breeze. When winter rolls around, that extra light can brighten your day and let in the sun’s warmth when it is too cold to roll down the windows.

Today’s sunroofs are more advanced than ever. For example, models like the Buick Enclave ST and Chevrolet Equinox ACTIV feature power panoramic sunroofs with rear fixed skylights and power sunshades. This means you and your passengers can enjoy the view without glare. You can fully open the roof or just slide the shade to let in a little sunlight, all from the driver’s seat. It is all up to you!

Sunroofs are also a family favorite. Kids love watching the sky roll by from the back seat, giving the cabin a bigger, brighter feel. Even on a quick drive between Bloomington and Decatur, a sunroof adds an extra layer of comfort and connection to the outdoors. If you have ever driven through the countryside, Weldon Springs, Moraine View, or under the stars with a panoramic roof, you know how special it can be.

Some drivers worry about long-term care with sunroofs and moonroofs, but modern roofs only require basic maintenance: keeping the glass clean, checking seals, and clearing leaves or debris. Today’s systems are built for durability and regular care helps avoid noises or leaks. If anything ever does need repair, our GM Certified service team here in Clinton or Farmer City is ready to help.

A sunroof adds comfort and style while enhancing your driving experience. It can also boost resale value when it is time for your next trade-in. While it adds a bit to the vehicle’s initial cost, many find it more than worth the upgrade. If you are considering a new Buick or new Chevrolet vehicle like the Enclave, Encore GX, Traverse or Equinox, take a moment to check out a model with a sunroof. We have many new and used moonroof- and sunroof-equipped SUVs and trucks available for sale and our team would be happy to show you how they work.

Feel free to contact us, schedule a test drive or visit our showroom to see for yourself.

You might come into our dealership looking for great features for the ebbs and flows of Illinois weather, like all-wheel drive or heated seats, but you just might leave wanting a sunroof too!

The Traverse offers more space and practicality for gear, which may be ideal for families or adventurous road trips.

Comfort and Practicality
Curious about space, comfort and everyday usability? Here’s how to decide which SUV fits your lifestyle best.

  1. Which SUV offers more, comfortable passenger space?
The Traverse has slightly more space, so it’s great for families. The Enclave prioritizes passenger comfort with second-row bucket seating and a quieter cabin thanks to Buick’s trademarked QuietTuning technology.
  1. Which has better third-row seating for adults?
The Traverse’s slightly larger size gives it a bit more legroom in the third row, making it a better choice for adult passengers.
  1. What are the differences in interior materials and finishes?
The Enclave offers a more refined cabin with contrasting interior tones and premium finishes. The Traverse leans towards hard-wearing materials designed for active lifestyles.

  1. Are there differences in available trims or customization options?
The Traverse LT is the lowest trim in the Traverse lineup, but can be customized with a variety of options that meet your needs, including appearance and safety upgrades. The Enclave Preferred is also the base model, but starts at a higher level in terms of finishes and comfort. Keep in mind, both Chevrolet and Buick offer several add-on packages to customize to your specific needs.

Performance and Value
Here is what we think you should know about how the Enclave and Traverse handle the road — and which one may offer the best value for your next vehicle.

  1. Do the Buick Enclave and Chevrolet Traverse have the same engine?
Yes, both share the same 2.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine delivering 328 horsepower and 326 lb-ft of torque offering plenty of power for most needs.
  1. Which SUV has better fuel efficiency?
Their fuel economy is nearly identical at around 20 mpg city and 27 mpg highway for both front-wheel-drive versions.
  1. Are both available with all-wheel drive (AWD)?
Yes, both offer front-wheel-drive (FWD) and AWD options to fit different Central Illinois driving conditions.
  1. Which SUV tows more?
Both can tow up to 5,000 lbs with the factory tow package. This is suitable for most campers, trailers and smaller boats – you might need it for a drive to Clinton Lake!
  1. Is the Buick Enclave more expensive than the Chevy Traverse?
The Enclave is a premium SUV, with more features coming standard on lower trims, which ultimately demands a higher starting price. The Traverse offers a more budget-friendly starting price, but can also be customized with add-ons that meet a variety of needs.
  1. Which offers better value for the money?
If you want more of a quiet, luxury feel, the Enclave is easily worth the investment. If space, durability and affordability matter more to you, the Traverse is a great choice.
  1. Which SUV holds its value better over time?
Generally, Chevrolet vehicles like the Traverse may depreciate a bit slower due to broader appeal. That said, the Enclave’s luxury features can help it retain value among buyers looking for a premium, used SUV.
  1. How does insurance cost compare between the Enclave and Traverse?
It is possible that insurance premiums will be slightly higher for the Enclave due to its luxury positioning and higher starting price. With lower-priced configurations, premiums on the Traverse may be lower, making it more appealing for budget-conscious buyers. However, insurance premiums vary greatly by provider and primary driver, so you should consult your agent for a price quote if this is a buying concern.
  1. Do both have the same warranty coverage?
Yes, both come with identical warranties: 3 years/36,000 miles basic and 5 years/60,000 miles powertrain, plus additional roadside assistance and maintenance visit features.
